Chris Godwin Sustains Serious Leg Injury Late in Monday Night Game

Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin feared to have sustained a dislocated ankle in loss to Ravens

The Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles revealed after the game that the “early indication” is wide receiver Chris Godwin may have dislocated his ankle during the team’s 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.

“He’s dealing with an ankle injury, and the initial signs suggest a dislocation,” Bowles told reporters. “It doesn’t look good.”

With just under a minute left in the game, Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith tackled Chris Godwin after a 21-yard catch. Godwin remained on the ground for several minutes before trainers carted him off with an air cast on his leg.

Head coach Todd Bowles did not confirm if the team took Godwin to a hospital after the game. While the severity and recovery timeline of the injury are still uncertain, Bowles’ comments suggest the Buccaneers may have to brace for the absence of one of their key receivers for an extended period.

“Our prayers are with him. Chris is not only an incredible player but an even better person,” Bowles said. “There’s not much you can say—you just feel for him.”

Before leaving the game, Chris Godwin recorded seven receptions for 65 yards, bringing his season total to 50 catches for 576 yards. He currently leads the league in receptions through the first seven weeks.

Godwin’s injury is the most worrying, but the Buccaneers might also lose their other starting wide receiver, Mike Evans. Evans left the game in the second quarter due to a hamstring injury, and head coach Todd Bowles did not update its severity.

The Buccaneers, now 4-3, are set to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Oct. 27.
