The Indianapolis Colts’ offense faltered significantly in their Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, leading fans to question if naming Joe Flacco the starter over Anthony Richardson was truly the best decision for the team.

With Anthony Richardson, the Colts’ first-round pick from just two years ago, sidelined, the team’s offense struggled to score. In their 21–13 loss, all 13 points came from a defensive touchdown and two field goals by Matt Gay. Joe Flacco delivered a subpar performance, managing only 179 passing yards with no touchdowns, one interception, and a lost fumble. This marked his lowest passing yardage in a start this season.
Although Richardson faced challenges before losing the starting role, it’s fair to think he might have offered at least as much, if not more, than what Flacco contributed on Sunday night. Many NFL fans echoed this sentiment, openly questioning coach Shane Steichen’s decision to go with the 39-year-old veteran instead of focusing on the development of the team’s 22-year-old franchise quarterback.
If the offense continues to struggle with Flacco at the helm, the decision to bench Richardson may draw even more criticism, especially if things don’t improve in Week 10 when the Colts face the Buffalo Bills.
